Why do you like NYC?

Ammon Swinbank /outpost-club.com

I love New York City because of the people living in it!  I am a professional musician working on graduate studies at New York University, and so far I have had the chance to meet Duke Ellington's daughter (Mercedes Ellington) and Lenny White from Bitches Brew (Miles Davis album) just to name a couple.  The opportunities out here seem boundless, and my favorite thing is just meeting people from all over the world.

Why did you come to NYC?

I guess you could say I came here for NYU, but it goes deeper than that.  I have been dreaming about this city as long as I can remember.  I came out here for the music, the art, buildings the people, and the experience of living in one of the biggest cities in the world.  NYC is pretty big for a native Coloradan!

What are you doing here now?

I just finished my Master of Music in flute performance at NYU and am finishing my advanced certificate in jazz studies at the same school.  I am getting ready for my doctorate, which I will probably also get in NYC, not sure where yet.

What do you like about Outpost Club and why did you choose us?

I found Outpost Club by accident.  When I moved to NYC in August 2015, I came with nothing but a flute, a computer and a suitcase.  I knew absolutely no one and had never seen this city before.  Keep in mind that the big city to a Colorodan is 1 million people or less.  NYC is 9 million.  I even stayed overnight in the airport because I did not know which borough my hostel was in.  Since then I have moved five times.  It is really hard to find a long term place to stay out here especially when you are new.  I mean it can be really hard to live in NYC.  Anyway the place I was living in just before OutPost, there was an emergency situation where I had to move unexpectedly.  So I got on Airbnb and found OutPost.  And what a relief!  There are wonderful people living here.  I can sleep well at night knowing I am surrounded with good people.  And there are artists living here.  I couldn't ask for more.  I only wish I had found OutPost sooner!
