For this week's #MemberMonday, we talked to Gian Lucca Abbate, Outpost Club's Bed-Stuy House leader. Gian Luca is from Milan, Italy, and is visiting New York for the autumn.
I’m Gian Luca and I’m from Italy! I have both Italian and Swedish origins since my dad is from Sweden.
In January I’ll move to Stockholm, where I’m starting my university studies all in English (I'm studying economics), and for this reason after I finished high school in July I decided to improve my English by having a three-month experience in a country where they speak English as a first language.
Since I have been in love with the U.S. since I was a child, I decided to come to this country. Now I’m the house leader at Bed-Stuy House and in my free time I like going to the gym, exploring New York and especially spending time with my housemates!
The thing I love the most about Outpost is the environment inside the houses. It’s a really good way to learn how to live and share experiences with other people. It’s always nice to spend time together in the house and to know that you have someone to talk to when you get home.
My favorite memory from living in the Bed-Stuy House would be the Sunday brunch! It’s really nice sharing a meal with my housemates, talking and eating together, and, of course, spending the entire evening in the common area watching TV and movies with my friends from the house!
Since I really like to explore this big and beautiful city, I've visited almost every part of Brooklyn -- even though I haven't yet visited the Bay Ridge neighborhood and Prospect Park.
My favorite part of Brooklyn is definitely downtown and DUMBO. You have a beautiful view on the skyline of lower Manhattan and you can find many spots to watch the sunset over this amazing city!
