Tell us a little bit about yourself

I'm 30, I play guitar, and I enjoy photography and handcrafting beverages as my hobbies. I've been in the speciality coffee industry for ten years, and that's what brought me to New York City.

How long have you been with outpost? What brought you here?

I've been with Outpost for a month. I chose Outpost because I wanted a place where I could live safely as a trans nonbinary person without judgment, and also to make friends in a city where I didn't know anyone.

Can you describe your upcoming event with Outpost?

I'm planning to show two different types of coffee brewing methods as well as a coffee cocktail, and explain the process of tasting coffee and all the notes that are in them.

What inspired the event you're going to host?

I love coffee and I love making it accessible to everyone, and sharing coffee with all of my roommates and housemates is a great way to do that.

What are you hoping to bring to the community with this event?

I aim hoping to increase [members'] knowledge of what coffee can be as well as develop a palate for what the differences between good coffee and bad coffee and how you can learn to make bad coffee good

What's the best coffee spot you've found in the city?

At Stumptown [I had a] horchata cold brew. It was a perfectly balanced flavorful beverage. It was sweet and creamy and very caffeinated and delicious

What's your story with coffee, and how has that story brought you to where you are today?

I started drinking coffee when I was three. My mom used to put it in my sippy cup and I would drink it on the way to pre-school every day. And as I got older, going to school, my mom worked at every school I went to and we always got ready together. It was our ritual to sit together and drink coffee and read the paper together, so I developed a love for drinking coffee and doing the crossword with my family. In high school I had a teacher who would reward our good grades with filed trips to Starbucks, and it was there I first learned what coffee can be, and that there was so much more than just adding cream and sugar. There was a moment in a coffee shop where someone made a French press for me and I learned there was a theatre to it. I no longer make coffee for people in the traditional sense. Now I roast coffee, and that's another part of the story. I enjoy that it has such a long journey before it gets to the customer, and that's what I love.
