This week’s #MemberMonday feature is Lotus Brown, an advertising student from Chicago and a member at our East Bushwick House.
Hey, guys! I’m Lotus and I just moved to NYC from Chicago 2 months ago for an advertising program. I come from the land of really good pizza, really cold winters, Obama and unique art installations. (You may have heard of The Bean; if not, check it out.) I’m excited to see all of the interesting and innovative things New York City has to offer.
My favorite Outpost memory so far has been spending New Year's Eve here at the East Bushwick house. I had just moved to the city and we had a '90s-themed celebration that night. Outpost members from different houses that I had never met before showed their lovely faces and we had fun together jamming out to '90s tunes and watching the ball drop in Times Square. Afterwards, we went up to the rooftop and watched our neighbors pop fireworks in the rain. It was definitely a great introduction to the city and one of the best nights of my life. Can’t wait until the Fourth of July!
New York is just a bigger, dirtier, more diverse version of Chicago! Actually, that’s not true. Contrary to popular belief, NYC and Chicago are completely different places. The thing I like the most about New York so far, though, is how wacky and creative the city is. You really can find some of the most offbeat things here -- from the Troll Museum to the annual No Pants Subway Ride that happens in January; it really is a unique place where anything can happen! I also love the fashion. New Yorkers are very stylish!
Right now, I’m working on building my copywriting portfolio as I’m studying at Miami Ad School to become a copywriter. I’m enjoying the process of generating new ideas and all that being a part of the creative side of advertising entails. If anyone wants to chat about advertising stuff, give me a holler!
